Based on the iconic Navitimer, the Cosmonaute was developed in the late fifties at the request of Lt. Scott Carpenter. The first models are said to have been introduced in 1961 and one year later this watch was used by Mr. Carpenter during his Aurora flight. So far for the history lesson: the Breitling Cosmonaute 02 reference AB021012.BB59.435X pictured here is the latest and most state-of-the-art Cosmonaute to date. It uses a modified version of the Breitling 01 calibre, now fitted with a 24h hour hand. This watch must be wound by hand - as was the case on the original Cosmonautes.
