Hi Alwin, thank you for joining us for this interview. We know you own a couple of TAG Heuer watches. What attracts you to this brand?
I like the TAG Heuer watches because of the sporty look and their connection to cars and racing. In fact, my first "serious" watch was a Formula 1 quartz, a Kimi Raikkonen edition, which was my "wedding watch" (I am not keen on rings :-) ).
After that, several TAGs have followed; a Monaco Calibre 11 with Steve McQueen striping (every TAG collection needs a Monaco), a Calibre 1887 Jack Heuer (the bullhead model, weird but beautiful), a Carrera Heuer 01 (the first edition, with the skeleton dial and the red accents) and finally, my favorite piece, a Carrera Heuer 02T Tourbillon.
We know you’re also a big Aston Martin fan. Can you explain to us what’s so special about this brand and their cars?
To me, what makes Aston Martin special is the looks and the sound. A timeless design, with classy lines, even on the more sporty models. Combine that with the growl of the V8 models and the lovely rumble of the V12 monsters... that is what got me hooked.
The Vantage models are my favorites, because of the shorter, more aggressive look. I currently own a V12 Vantage Roadster in Cobalt Blue and a V8 Vantage coupe, which is a twin turbo project car (currently in yellow and black WatchBase livery). Next to that, I own a beautiful & classy DBS in Aston Martin Racing Green, a pre-production car from 2006, with a manual gearbox.
Aston Martin previously worked with Jaeger-LeCoultre – I think you even own one or more of those? How did you feel about this partnership?
Even though I was never a JLC fan myself, I did like the AMVOX watches and find they do fit the Aston Martin brand. These watches were quite popular with Aston drivers too. I own 2 myself, an elegant AMVOX1, with the "Memovox" alarm and the more sporty AMVOX5, in a limited V12 Vantage edition.
However, since the last AMVOX released was quite a while ago, I am happy to see the new partnership with TAG Heuer and hope to see many cool new watches that combine two of my favorite brands.
This week two watches were introduced to launch the collaboration, a Carrera Heuer 01 and a Formula 1. What’s your impression? Do you have a favorite yet?
Of the two first watches introduced my favorite is the Carrera Heuer 01. I already love the look and feel of the regular 01 and this AM branding makes it perfect. Even though I already own a 01, I am afraid I will have to add the AM edition to my collection!
I am however not so sure about the quartz watch - though I do like the yellow accents. My feeling is that the quartz movement doesn't really fit the Aston Martin experience.
Is there anything you’d like to see from coming from the TAG Heuer x Aston Martin collab in the future?
I'd love to see model specific releases. Sign me up for a Vantage watch!
A Vantage Tourbillon perhaps? That'd be awesome. Thanks again Alwin for taking the time to talk with us about TAG Heuer & Aston Martin!
