In January of 2019 Omega proudly announced to the world that it had recreated Calibre 321, the movement that motivated the Speedmaster in its earliest iterations. The first watch to be powered by this reborn movement wouldn't see the light of day until July 21st of the same year. Sporting the reference number 311.93.42.30.99.001, this watch was a no-expenses-spared take on the much-beloved Speedmaster Professional, clad in a lavish mix of platinum, onyx and meteorite. A luxury Speedmaster if ever there was one - with a price to match. A true stunner, yet not what most collectors had hoped for when the return of the 321 was announced. Perhaps a more historically-correct vessel for this iconic movement was in order? Well, now, with 2020 barely one week old, Omega gives us just that with the introduction of the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch 321 Stainless Steel reference 311.30.40.30.01.001! The Omega Speedmater Moonwatch 321 ref. 311.30.40.30.01.001 is a modern take on the watch worn by Ed White when he made the first American space walk in 1965. The looks are near spot-on; a 39.7mm stainless steel case, a stepped dial with vintage Omega logo, a 'Dot over Ninety' bezel. But it's not a simple facsimile of the old 105.003: Updates such as the ceramic tachymeter ring, sapphire crystals both front and back, and the modern construction of the bracelet firmly place it in our day and age.
