For 2023, the Zenith Defy Skyline is reimagined in black ceramic with a matching black dial. And the result is rather striking! The original 2022 Zenith Defy Skyline already was a modern take on the original Defy A3642 of 1969, but the 2023 49.9300.3620/21.I001 takes things to another level. The high-tech ceramic case and matching bracelet give the Skyline a unique aura. It's brilliant, bold and sleek. It's much harder than traditional metals as well, making this watch highly resistant to scratches and visible signs of wear. The black dial -with a patern revisiting the brand's four-pointed star- completes the dark and mysterious look.
Like the original, the 2023 Zenith Defy Skyline is powered by caliber El Primero 3620. This self-winding movement is based on the architecture of the earlier El Primero 3600 1/10th of a second chronograph. It has an unusual function: the small seconds hand at 9:00 makes one rotation every 10 seconds. This hand is driven directly from the escapement. This beats at 5Hz (36’000 VpH), thus making it a “natural” fraction-of-a-second indication. It is also endowed with a stop-second mechanism for precise time-setting. The movement can be seen through the see-through case back.
In addition to the ceramic bracelet, the 2023 Zenith Defy Skyline Black Ceramic is delivered with a second strap in black rubber.
